Edgar H. Goodliff

April 26, 1945 — April 20, 2016

Ed Goodliff of Wingate, NC died April 20th after being the most awesome husband and father ever. Born April 26, 1945 in Olean, he was the son of Guy and Virginia Goodliff of Allegany. Mr. Goodliff was a graduate of Allegany Central School, class of 1963. On July 24, 1965 he married Sandra Lee Sanderson who survives. He is also survived by his daughters Kimberly Goodliff of Cortland, NY and Jennifer Goodliff of Charlotte, NC as well as his brother, Andrew Goodliff of Angelica, NY and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Goodliff was a former marine and a Vietnam veteran having served from 1963 to 1967. He received the Vietnamese Service Medal and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal. In addition to his Marine Corps service to his country, Mr. Goodliff served for many years in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Drill Sgt., retiring with the rank of Sgt. First Class. Mr. Goodliff had worked for Verizon for many years as both a contractor and employee in various capacities in the Olean area. Politically active, he was a staunch advocate for our 2nd Amendment rights as co-founder and Chairman of the Southern Tier Gun Owners and Southern Tier SCOPE Committee. He was a life member of the NRA. Mr. Goodliff was a member and past Commander of the Olean VFW Post 1619 as well as Board Member of the American Legion Post 530 of Olean. A Gathering will be held at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor of the St. Mary of the Angels Church, will officiate. Burial, with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892, will be at the Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
