Thomas Firkel, of 2617 Olean-Hinsdale Road, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at the Pines Health and Rehab.
Mr. Firkel was born in the Olean General Hospital on January 19, 1937. He was the son of the late Clyde and Anna Spears Firkel. On August 10, 1979, he married Joan Ayers, who survives.
Mr. Firkel attended Olean High School and Sacramento City College, CA, School of Structural Engineering. He worked numerous jobs including managing The Bolivar (Evergreen) Country Club, The City Club in Bolivar, North American sales representative for Stanadyne Power Product Division, Hartford, CT, and owned and operated Anti-Freeze Recycling Service.
Surviving are, Joan Ayers-Firkel, Janet Marra, a son Matthew, stepsons Randy Ayers and Kevin Ayers, and beloved lights of his life, his grandchildren, Bradley Ayers, Amy Ayers, and Hailie Ayers, and also great grandchildren, Mavis Mae Ayers and Charlotte Elizabeth Ayers, plus several nieces and nephews along with a favorite sister-in-law, Ellen Hays.
He was predeceased by Raymond, William, Robert, Harold, and Mark Firkel, Doris Wilber, Charlot Griffin, Mildred (Pat) Wuethrich, and Audrey Stomieroski.
He has gone to be with his lifelong friend, Carlton (Jeep) Richardson. He will be missed for his lifetime jokes and humor.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Levine will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean at a later date.
