Donald R. Farwell

Donald R. Farwell, of Hinsdale passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit following an illness. Don was born August 1, 1935 in Cuba and was a son of C. Herbert and Olive Potter Farwell. He married Arlene Shaffer in 1957, who predeceased him in 1993. Don married, Kathleen Timme Crowder in 1996, who predeceased him in 1998. On July 9, 1999 at the Maplehurst Baptist Church, he married Ruth Hakes Ruggles, who survives. Don graduated from Hinsdale Central School in 1952. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Riley Kansas. Don was the 6th generation to farm the Farwell Farmer in Ischua. He also working at Sandberg and Griffith Oil companies until his retirement in 1999. Don was a long time member of the Maplehurst Baptist Church, which was founded by Abram Farwell. He was also a 35 year member of the Ischua Town Board. Along with his loving wife, Donald is survived by one daughter, Dawn M. (Eric) Milyard of Divide, CO; four stepsons, Richard (Tina) Ruggles of Hinsdale, Chris (Andrea) Ruggles of Starr, SC, Jeff Crowder, and Jim Crowder; and several grandchildren & great grandchildren. Don was pre-deceased by a son, Douglas L. Farwell on Dec. 23, 2011; a stepdaughter, Karen Stamps on March 12, 2009; and a sister, Wilma Shade in 2013. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11:00 at in the Maplehurst Baptist Church. The Rev. Terry L. Jenks, Pastor, and the Rev. Mike R. Sanders, Pastor of the Five Mile Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Farwell Family lot in the Hinsdale Cemetery.
