Colleen E. "Connie" Amidon, of 4511 Elling Road, passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Florida, surrounded by her loving family.
Connie was born December 22, 1949 in Cuba and was the daughter of the late George Robert and Marjory Maybe Elling. On August 22, 1970, at the Hinsdale Methodist Church, she married her husband of almost 45 years, Gary L. Amidon, who predeceased her.
Connie graduated from Hinsdale Central School in 1967 and attended a Community College in Minnesota. She worked at ACME Electric for over 20 years, the Hinsdale Legion, JoAnn Fabrics, Seneca Casino, and the DEC's Green Thumb program in Olean.
Connie was a member of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church and the Hinsdale American Legion, where she was the past president of the Auxiliary.
Connie volunteered for the Hinsdale Little League, coached softball and helped in the snack shack for the midget football league, little league baseball, and softball. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, crafting, spending time with her children and grandchildren as much as possible, attending do it yourself workshops with family and pack her bags to make a trip to watch swim meets and soccer games in Florida and softball or baseball in Connecticut. Connie was also an avid bowler for many years. She would help with anything she could at any time.
Connie is survived by three children, Gary L. (Karen) Amidon, II of Ledyard, CT, Tina L. (David) Lawhead of Bartow, FL, and Brian R. Amidon of Rochester; four grandchildren, Bree, Tyler, Gary III, and Aaliyah; two siblings, Paul (Debbie) Elling and Paulette (Randy) Mohr; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her loving husband, Connie was predeceased by three brothers, George, Kevin, and Edward (Edna) Elling.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at which time a Funeral Service will be held. The Rev. Richard "Buck" Young, Pastor of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery.
