Viola C. Smith

Viola C. Smith, 104, formerly of 649 Grandview, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 in the Absolut of Allegany Nursing Home. Mrs. Smith was born on March 11, 1908 in Salamanca, NY and was a daughter of Michael and Mary Meyers. On September 30, 1931 in Salamanca she married her husband of 46 years, Carl D. Smith, who pre-deceased her on Jan. 20, 1978. Mrs. Smith attended both Transfiguration Church and also St. Joseph's Maronite Church. She was a past member of the Rosary Society at Transfiguration. Mrs. Smith also volunteered at the Olean General Hospital for 25 years and was very active in the Olean Senior Center. Surviving Mrs. Smith are a daughter in law, Carolyn A. Smith of Norton, Mass; three grandchildren, Carolyn E. Smith of Norton, Mass, Sara M. Smith of Taunton, Mass, and Peter C. (Dawn) Smith of Assonet, Mass; three great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband; her son, Thomas M. Smith on Oct. 29, 2002; two brothers, Walter and John Meyers; and four sisters, Agnes and Mary Meyers, Stell Wilson and Constance Jachacz. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean on Thursday Aug. 16, 2012 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Funeral Services will begin with a prayer service in the Funeral home at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. John's Catholic Church. The Rev. David E. Tourville, Associate Pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will celebrate in the Absence of The Rev. Edward Sheedy, Pastor. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
