Erwin P. Ward, of 5752 Sparta Road, formerly of North Branch Road, Friendship passed away at home Thursday Aug 26, 2010 at home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Ward was born on Dec. 14, 1936 in Clarksville, NY and was the son of Orrin and Genevieve Linza Ward. On August 3, 2010, in North Wilkesboro, NC, he married Winifred Morsman, who survives.
Mr. Ward served in the National Guard Reserves for three years from 1961 to 1964. He worked for the Erie- Lackawanna Railroad as a laborer for 30 years. Mr. Ward then worked for the Town of Wirt for three years and Mackler Industries for about a year. He moved to North Wilkesboro in 2005. Mr. Ward was a member of the Horse Puller Association and former member of the Friendship American Legion. He enjoyed horse pulling, walking, hunting, telling good stories, western movies and old songs. Mr. Ward especially loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ward is survived by four children, Brian L. Ward of Friendship, Jeff A. Ward of Belfast, Lori A. (Sam) Clark of Wellsville, and Christine L. Ward of North Wilkesboro, NC; three stepchildren, Robert L (Ginny) Snyder of Fairview, OK, Bonnie L (James) Livergood of Chesterfield, SC, and Tammy L. (Randall) Gilbert of North Wilkesboro, NC; a brother, Jerry (Barb) Ward of Friendship; and two sisters, Shirley (Donald) Coombes of West Almond, NY, and Anitta (Bob) Cimbricz of Kilbuck, NY Mr. Ward is predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence and Gilbert and a sister, Joan Ward.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba on Wednesday, September 1, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Thursday 1-2:30 PM. As per his request, there will not be funeral service. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
