Howard D. "Howie" Pierce of 4450 Nichols Run Road passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010 at home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with melanoma.
Mr. Pierce was born on July 11, 1953 in Olean and was the son of Earl and Mildred Fahy Pierce. On June 1, 1974, he married the former Brenda J. Blade, who survives.
Mr. Pierce was a 1971 graduate of Hinsdale Central School. He has been employed by Dresser-Rand Company for the past 36 years and was most recently as an inspector. Mr. Pierce was a member of the Steel Workers Union Local 4601. He enjoyed fly fishing, tying his own lures, camping, and was a big Buffalo Sabres fan. Most of all Mr. Pierce enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 36 years, Mr. Pierce is survived by a daughter, Amy L. (Benjamin Piche) Pierce of Limestone; two sons, Richard J. Pierce of Lubbock, TX, and Donald T. (Heidi) Pierce of Limestone; four brothers, Thomas (Irene) Pierce of Elba, Gerald (Mary) Pierce of Bolivar, John (Mary) Pierce of Bolivar, and Richard (Betty) Pierce of Bradford, PA; and four grandchildren, Bird C. Piche, Kathryn G. Foulkrod, Alan M. Wildfire, River H. Piche.
Mr. Pierce is predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Benson and two brothers, Henry and Lyle Pierce.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Friday Aug. 6, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at which time Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Samuel E. Marchetta, Chaplin of Home Care and Hospice will officiate.
