Walter J. Liwa

Walter J. Liwa of 1440 Four Mile Road, Lot 5, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2008) at home. Born Feb. 27, 1945, in Olean, he was a son of Walter J. and Helen A. Nagurny Liwa Sr. Mr. Liwa graduated from Olean High School in 1963 and attended St. Bonaventure University. He worked for the American Red Cross before becoming a counselor for the Cattaraugus County Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse for a number of years. Surviving are two sisters, Charlotte G. (James) Abernethy of Allegany and Nancy L. LaFredo of Olean; a niece, Kim (Mike) Ackerman of Olean; a nephew, David (Cathy) Mindler of Youngstown; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. A graveside committal service will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc., Olean.
