Donald W. Knapp

Donald K. Knapp of 20 Genesee Parkway passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Erie County Medical Center following illness. Mr. Knapp was born on September 20, 1932 in Hinsdale and was the son of William and Ruth Clayson Knapp. In 1959, he married the former Ester Metcalf, who survives. Mr. Knapp served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Knapp was a truck driver all of his life. He drove for a number of business including Crosby Poultry, Resch Distributing for 18 years, Henry Brown for 5 years, and Mike Magnano. Mr. Knapp drove truck for Farnsworth Cookies for more than 10 years before retiring in about 1996. During his retirement Mr. Knapp worked for the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home (also McIntosh Funeral Home) part time for a number of years. Mr. Knapp was a 40 year member of Cuba First Baptist Church, serving as usher and deacon for 6 years. He was also a life member of the Cuba VFW where he was a past commander. Mr. Knapp enjoyed working around the church in maintenance and cleaning, woodworking, NASCAR, crossword puzzles, as well as the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. Most of all, he enjoyed taking care of his family and especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered as agential but firm man who always had a story to tell. In addition to his wife, Mr. Knapp is survived by two sons, Steven A. (Audrey) Knapp of Franklinville, and Gary L (Barb) Knapp of Seymour, TN; six grandchildren, Debra Snyder, Donna Snyder, Krista Snyder, Michelle Knapp, Richard Snyder, and Steve Knapp; four great-grandchildren, Megan Snyder, Julie Snyder, Darren Snyder and Aiden Palmer; two sisters, Jean (Tom) Frank of Olean, and Mary (Wallace) Hanley of Window Rock, AZ. Mrs. Knapp is predeceased by a son, Robert W. Knapp in 1962; a daughter, Donna Snyder in 2002; and two brothers, Ray and Robert D. Knapp. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral and Committal service and will be held on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008 at 2:00 in the Cuba First Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the Cuba First Baptist Church, 17 South Street, Cuba NY 14727.
