Robert L. Dunshie (90) of 1213 Promised Land Road, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 in the Olean General Hospital.
Mr. Dunshie was born on March 2, 1920 in Shinglehouse, Pa. and was a son of Dewey Lee and Ryth Helen Walker Dunshie. He married his wife Dorothy I. Myers on June 22, 1941 in Olean. She survives.
Mr. Dunshie was a graduate of Portville High School. He also graduated from Barber School in Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. Dunshie was a barber at the Samson Navel Base before returning to the area and opening his own Barber Shop in Portville. He closed his Barber Shop in Portville after the Flood in 1942 and began working for Montford Oelkrue Barber Shop on West State Street in Olean. He later bought his Uncles Dunshie's Barber Shop at 241 � North Union Street (now On the Side Sub) and ran it until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Dunshie was a former member of Showers Evangelical Brethren Church. He was currently a very active member of the Olean First Baptist Church, where he has held various positions though out the years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and following the stock market.
Surviving Mr. Dunshie besides his wife of 69 years are a son, Robert L. (Mireille) Dunshie of Columbus, Georgia; a daughter, Lynn Dunshie-Perry of Mays Landing, NJ; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister, Janet (Keith) Day of Lone Oaks, Texas; and four nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dunshie was pre-deceased by a brother, Ross Dunshie in 2005.
Friends will be received at the Olean First Baptist Church on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at which time Funeral services will be held. The Rev. Daniel E. McDowell, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church 133 South Union Street, Olean, NY 14760.
