Floyd E. King of 122 N. 14th Street, Olean, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 in the Bradford Ecumenical Home. Mr. King was born in Olean on October 23, 1924 and was the son of George and Magdalena Gaspar King. On October 12, 1956, in St. Joseph Church he married his wife of 41 years Elizabeth Farris who pre-deceased him on March 7, 1997. Mr. King was a graduate of Olean High School and attended both Jamestown Community College as well as St. Bonaventure University. He served in the U.S. Navy from March 16, 1943 to Nov. 7, 1946, serving on the USS Chester and the USS Bingham as a Gunner's Mate second class. Mr. King was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific medal with four battle stars, the Victory medal and Good Conduct medal. Mr. King worked for Clark Bros. Co., Cheveret Corp., and then Olean Advanced Products (AVX), where he retired as a supervisor of Quality Control. He was a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where held many position including serving as an Elder and Usher. Mr. King was a member of the "41-42' Football Club and was a past member of the American Society of Quality Control. Mr. King is survived by many nieces and nephews including two nieces, Nellie J. (Wendell) Wallace of Bradford, PA., and Nora (Greg) Schoonmaker of Troy, NY; and two nephews, Mark ( Alice) Truseott of VA., and Todd J. Carlson of Wellsville, NY. Mr. King is pre-deceased by a sister Marilyn Truscott. Friends will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 from 4-7 P.M. in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. Derek J. Cheek, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church 4th & Laurens Street, Olean, N.Y. 14760 or to the American Heart Association PO Box 3049 Syracuse, NY 13320-3049 or to the Bradford Ecumenical Home 100 St. Francis Drive, Bradford, Pa. 16701.
