Alva T. Vogel of 6865 Shaller Road passed away Thursday March 28, 2013 at home following an illness. Alva was born on March 3, 1926 in Laramie, Wyoming and was a son of Millard and Erma Hunter Vogel. On April 9, 1948 he married Mary Silsby who pre-deceased him on Oct. 18, 1985. He married Elsie Sortore on Dec. 13, 1987 who survives. As a young man he was a cowboy working the ranches in Wyoming and in the coal mines with his father. After moving to the Cuba area he worked for Borden's Dairy in Cuba, Friendship Dairies and he also drove semi truck until his retirement. His wife Elsie was his best friend who he loved & enjoyed their time together. He was a great life's teacher to all of his children who will greatly miss him. He was a Daddy who was always there no matter what the family needed. Surviving Alva besides his loving wife Elsie are 11 Children, David Vogel of Black Creek, Kalvin Roat of Olean, Donald (Sue) Vogel of Belfast, Dennis (Kym Cyr) Vogel of Vineyardhaven, Ma, Daren (Karol) Vogel of Black Creek, Danny (Jennifer) Vogel of Hunt, Kathy (Joe) Rich of Caneadea, Doris (Charlie) McAhon of Wellsville, Patty (Dick) Searls of Cuba, Della (Dean) Warner of Angelica, and Shiela (Randy) Hull of Wellsville; a sister-in-law, Norma Vogel Andrus of Black Creek; many grand, great grant and great great great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and a brother-in-law and best friend, Stanley A. Tuttle of Ischua. Alva was pre-deceased by his first wife Mary; a daughter-in-law, Linda Vogel; and two brothers, Millard N. Vogel and Elmer F. Vogel. Friends were received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy. Cuba on Saturday, March 30, 2013 from 12 noon until 1:00 pm at which time a Funeral and Committal service was held. The Rev. Burton L. Smith officiated. Burial was in the Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, NY.
