Janet M. Snyder, 87, passed away, Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital.
Born August 13, 1926, in Granger she was the daughter of the Late Shirley and Margaret (Prentice) Howden. In the Geneseo Methodist Church on August 2, 1946 she married James E. Snyder who predeceased her in 1978.
She lived in Perry for 34 years and worked at Champion Production for 21 years, retiring in 1987. While living in Perry she was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and the Sportsman's Club at Silver Lake.
She was a member of the Olean First Baptist Church for 20+ years. She served as a volunteer receptionist for approximately 20 years and also served many years on the Communications Committee. She loved her Lord and her church very much.
Janet loved flowers and had a little garden. She was an animal lover of dogs and stray cats and her own cat, Katie. She enjoyed them all. She also loved feeding the squirrels and birds. After retiring, she enjoyed doing ceramics and various wood projects, for which she won many awards at the Cattaraugus County Fairs.
Janet is survived by four children, Shirley Snyder, Sandra (Roy) Fiore, Eric Snyder and David Snyder; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Friend Micki Bonadonna) Austen of Perry; one nephew, Van Howden of Perry; several nieces, Ann (Kevin) Lyons of Avon, Diane (Roy) Balch of Avon, Ann (Don) Howden of Hilton, Sharon Pastore of Batavia, and Cheryl (Jeff) Fagan of Perry; and her "Like Family" Friends, Mike, Sandy Schultz, Heather Schultz and Michele Cone.
In addition to her loving husband James, Janet was predeceased by two brothers, Lewis and LeRoy Howden.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, 133 South Union Street, Olean at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Daniel McDowell will officiate. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Perry, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 2944 Route 16 North, Olean, New York 14760 or the First Baptist Church, 133 South Union Street, Olean, New York 14760.
