Richard M. Giberson

Richard M. "Pork" Giberson of 3581 Creek Road, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the Olean General Hospital follow a brief illness, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Rich was born Aug. 18, 1964 in Olean and was a son of James W. and Carol Briggs Giberson. On June 12, 1989 in Hinsdale, he married his wife of almost 24 years, Darcy R. Lamb, who survives. Rich graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1982. He served in the Army from July 1, 1982 to June 30, 1985 and continued in the Army Reserve until 1988. Rich worked for the Hinsdale Central School and the Hinsdale Post Office before going to work full time at the Cuba Post Office in 1989, where he continued to work as a rural route carrier. Pork is a life member of the Hinsdale Fire Department where he was a past assistant chief. He also was a member of the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chambers Post #1434 and a past member of the Hinsdale Youth Commission. For more than 10 years he was involved with the Hinsdale Adult Softball Tournament. Pork was very active with the Don Kent Memorial Horse Pull and the Falling Leaves Regatta. Pork truly loved being very active with Hinsdale Youth Sports and played a big roll in the baseball and football youth teams including working on all the fields and field buildings. Pork was an avid hunter and fisherman. Pork loved being outdoors and enjoyed playing softball, golf, and darts. Along with his loving wife, Pork is survived by one son, Cody J. Giberson of Cuba; one daughter, Shelby L. (Wayne) Raffety of Fort Hood, TX; his mother, Carol L. (Roger) Snyder of Cuba; his stepmother, Linda Giberson of Hinsdale; four brothers, Marc A. Giberson of Hinsdale, Richard T. (Sherry) Foster of Olean, Kenneth A. (Wendy Kemp) Foster of Hinsdale, and Jason (Kathy) Giberson of Hinsdale; three sisters, Patti K. (Diego) Procacci of Manassas, VA, Jill L. (David) Jule of Fredericksburg, VA, and Jennifer L. (Robert) Hernandez of Myrtle Beach, SC; many, many nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles & cousins; and special & close friends, Jeff & Suzi VanDeCar. Hinsdale Pork was predeceased by his father, James W. Giberson on Nov. 25, 2004; and his grandparents, including his paternal grandmother, Leah K. Giberson on April 9, 2009. Friends will be received, Thursday April 11, 2013 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 E. State St., Olean from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm, where Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Gerard F. leFeber will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery with Full Military Honor's accorded by the Hinsdale American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hinsdale Fire Department, 3832 Main St., Hinsdale, NY 14743 or the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chambers Post #1434, 3727 Route 16, Hinsdale, NY 14743.
