Charles Louis Hinton

Charles Louis Hinton died quietly in his home in Allegany on Thursday, June 12, 2008. In October, he would have been one hundred and one years old. Born in Clifton, NJ on October, 10, 1907, he was the eldest son of Charles Louis Hinton, Sr. and Grace Ann Hinton. Mr. Hinton married his wife Phyllis Virginia King on June 29, 1935. She pre-deceased him on Feb. 23, 1998. Mr. Hinton. resided in Bronxville during his early years where he attended the Yonkers Public Schools and Cooper Union Institute of Technology in New York. They also resided in Easton, PA, Creskill, NJ, White Plains, NY, Bronxville, NY, before moving to the and moved to the Olean/Allegany area in 1950. Mr. Hinton was employed at General Electric Co., Ingersoll Rand Co., M.W. Kellogg Co., and then Clarke Bros. Co. as a Contract Administrator before he retired in 1971. Mr. Hinton belong to a number of organizations including National Societies of Professional Engineers, The Olean Rod and Gun Club, The Olean Chamber of Commerce, The Allegany Adoniram Lodge No. 833 Masons, Elder of the Allegany Presbyterian Church and Allegany Central School Parent Teacher Association. Mr. Hinton is survived by one son, Douglas King Hinton of Fredonia, NY; one daughter, Nancy Diane Hinton of Worchester, MA; and one sister, Suzzane Way of Philadelphia, PA. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean on Monday, June 16, 2008 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Daniel H. McKee will officiate. A Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Kensico Cemetery, Vallaha, New York with Rev. Timothy Ives officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean.
