Sister Jeannette Michaud

Sister Jeannette Michaud, OSF died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY. Sister Jeannett was born on August 3, 1930 in Cortland, NY and was a daughter of Lorenzo A. Michaud and Marie Antoinette Desroches Michaud, formerly of Cortland, NY. She was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, New York, at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1949 and professed her final religious vows on June 1, 1974. Sister Jeannette faithfully lived the Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany first as teacher from 1948 - 1953 at Corpus Christi, Miami, FL and St. Margaret Mary in Rochester, NY. From 1954 - 1973 Sister Jeannette served with the Poor Clares in Philadelphia and Coroico, Bolivia. Upon her return to the Franciscan Sisters, Sister Jeannette studied nursing at Felician College in Lodi, NJ where she received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing in 1975. Sister served as nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach FL before going to Alto Beni, Bolivia. From 1976- 1979, Sister Jeannette ministered as a nurse, hospital administrator, and assisted with pastoral ministry in Alto Beni. From there Sister Jeannette went to La Paz, Bolivia where she held the position of Area VI Coordinator. In 1985, she returned to the United States to work as staff nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Miami Beach FL for the next four years. From 1989 to 2001 Sister served as a Health Nurse in Pastoral Ministry in Pando, Bolivia. Upon her return to the United States, Sister worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Convent, Tampa, FL. From 2004 - 2005, Sister served as Assistant Local Minister at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. During the following two years, Sister Jeannette returned to Bolivia to work as assistant to the Bishop in Beni, Bolivia. In July of 2007, Sister graciously assumed the position of Director of the St. Elizabeth Mission Society, a sponsored ministry of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, where she served until the time of her death. Sister was predeceased by her parents and brothers Laurence and Robert Michaud. In addition to her Franciscan Sisters, Sister Jeannette is survived by her sisters Antoinette McNaughton, and Elizabeth White; her brothers Paul, Eugene, Joseph, and Charles Michaud; and many nieces and nephews. A Wake Service is scheduled on Friday, January 9, 2009, at 6:30 P.M. at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse at 10:30 A.M., on Saturday, January 10, 2009. Interment will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, New York. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean, New York.
