Bernice L. Cornish of 3354 North 7th Street, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008 in The Pines Health & Rehab Center in Olean.
Mrs. Cornish was born on Oct. 12, 1918 in Wellsville and was a daughter of George A. and Gertrude Osborne Leonard. On June 2, 1939 in Olean she married Charles W. Cornish, who survives.
Mrs. Cornish was a graduate of Olean High School class and she attended West Brook Academy Business School. She worked for Lester's Shoe for a number of years. She was a long time and devoted member of the Olean First Baptist Church, where she held many positions including having a phone ministry for many years, teaching and playing the piano. She also drove for meals on wheels for a number of years.
Surviving Mrs. Cornish besides her husband are two sons, Charles B. (Mary Margaret) Cornish of Olean and Alan P. Cornish of Olean; two daughters, Ellen M. Mashewske of Hendersonville NC and Kathy A. (David) Thrun of Allegany; five granddaughters, Pam, Tami, Tabitha, Sandy and Amanda; four great grandchildren, a brother, Arthur (Patty) Leonard of Green Valley, AZ; and several nieces, nephew, & cousins.
Mrs. Cornish was pre-deceased by two brothers, Dr. Wesley E. Leonard and Kenneth Leonard; and a son-in-law, George Mashewske in 2007.
Friends will be received on Monday, May 5, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Daniel E. McDowell, Pastor of the Olean First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, N.Y.
In. lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Olean First Baptist Church #133 South Union Street, Olean, N.Y. 14760 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
