Frederick J. Middaugh, of 8026 County Rd. 20, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital.
Fred was born on June 26, 1938 in Belmont and was a son of William Vincent "Toby" and Ruby Emily Sortore Middaugh, Sr. On Aug. 24, 1957, in Portville, he married his wife of 60 years, Helen Louise Benham, who survives.
Fred worked for A.L. Blades from 1962 to 1983. He then went to work for Allegany County from 1983-2007 and Suit-Kote from 2007-2009. Fred worked for the Green Thumb Program from 2009-2013, after which he retired. He was formerly a member of the Belmont Rod and Gun Club, the Belmont American Legion, and the bowling league. Fred enjoyed horse pulls and trotting & racing ponies. He was an avid hunter, and enjoyed cutting wood & working in the woods during the winter months.
Along with his loving wife, Fred is survived by four children, Mark D. Middaugh of Cuba, Russ F. (Nancy) Middaugh of Virginia, Larry D. (Brenda) Middaugh of Caneadea, and Tina M. (Chris) Wiedeman; nine grandchildren, Larry D. Jr., Brooke, Tonya, Drew, Guy, Christopher, BJ, Khristin, & Heather; many great grandchildren; six siblings, Onalee (Darrel) Scharf of Belfast, Marilyn Miller of Belfast, Joyce Clark of Belfast, Donald (Norma) Middaugh of Friendship, Douglas (Carol) Middaugh of Scio, and Roger (Sylvia) Middaugh of Scio.
Fred was predeceased by a granddaughter, Brittany Middaugh on Aug. 31, 2014; four brothers, Vincent and Richard Middaugh, Maurice W. Middaugh on Nov. 19, 2016 and Ralph R. Middaugh on April 21, 2017; and a sister, Marjorie Elliot on Jan. 8, 2016.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba, on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at the Cuba United Methodist Church, 49 E. Main St., Cuba, on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Burton Smith, Jr., Pastor, will officiate.
