Gordon M. Maynard

Gordon M. Maynard, formerly of Shinglehouse and 968 Coyle Road, Bolivar passed away Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, following a lengthy illness. Gordon was born Oct. 27, 1922 in Millport, PA and was a son of Martin Adelbert and Kathleen Maxwell Maynard. On Feb. 17, 1945 in Rapid City, SD he married his wife of 69 years, Lois C. Jackson, who predeceased him on Oct. 27, 2014. Gordon was a 1939 graduated from Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse. He served in the US Army Air Corps as a pilot flying a B-17 during World War II, in the European Theatre. Gordon started the Texaco Gas Station in 1945, which he ran for about 20 years. He also bought the Millport Gas & Oil Company in 1948 which he ran for over 30 years. In 1969 Gordon became a Nationwide Insurance Agent. He sold insurance for about 15 years, retiring in about 1983. Gordon was formerly a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Millport, PA and the Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee. He and his wife, Lois, moved to Clearwater, FL in 1986 and returned to Bolivar in 2003. Gordon enjoyed being outdoors & traveling, but most of all he truly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Gordon is survived by four children, M. Elaine (Jerry) Goodridge of Scio, Patricia L. (Jim) Kloosterman of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Donna F. (Terry) Mascho of Bolivar and Martin G. Maynard of Olean; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and three nieces & nephews. Along with his loving wife, Gordon was predeceased by a brother, Robert Maynard. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State St., Olean, on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at which time a Funeral & Committal Services will be held. The Rev. Dave W. Herne, will officiate. Members of the ritual team of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 will accord full military honor's. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Hart Comfort House, #141 East State Street, Wellsville, New York 14895. Online condolences may be made by clicking the button above.
