Olean- Thomas Howard Butler “Loving Father & Grandfather”
Thomas Howard Butler of 2901 W. River Road passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at ECMC in Buffalo following an illness.
Tom was born December 5, 1931 in Olean and was the son of Howard Thomas and Marguerite E. Welch Butler. On May 22, 1954 at St. Mary of the Angels Church, he married his loving wife Sally A. McAdam who predeceased him on April 1, 2022.
Tom was a class of 1950 gradate from Olean High School. After high school he attended the Olean Business Institute. Tom served in the US Army from July 18, 1952 until April 21, 1954 during that time he served in the Korean War as a Radio Operator and a Field Scout. He began working at National Niagara Mohawk in 1954 until he retired in 1989. During that time, Tom did a variety of jobs including being a line walker who checked on all the power lines, supply transport to various field offices in the Southern Tier and working in the office.
Tom was a member of Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and a member of the Birch Run Golf Course. He really enjoyed baseball, playing high school varsity baseball, watching the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers. Tom was a lifelong SBU fan and season ticket holder he also was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan.
Tom is survived by; a son Timothy P. Butler of Olean; 3 grandchildren, Jackson V Butler, Carson P. Butler and Lauryn G. Butler; and a sister Kathleen Cucchiaro of Olean.
Along with his loving wife Sally, Tom was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers, Gerald Butler and John Butler.
Friends will be received on Monday, May 16 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, 202 S Union St, Olean, NY 14760. The Rev. Ross Chamberlin OFM will officiate.
