Portville- Carol Elaine Leverenz Parr Carol L. Parr of 9 School Street, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the Absolut of Allegany following an illness. Carol was born June 14, 1931, in Hamlin, New York and was a daughter of Wilbur J. “Bill” and Madelyn Garrison Leverenz. On September 15, 1956, in Hamlin at the St. John Church she married Douglas O. Parr who predeceased her on April 18, 2001. Carol was a class of 1949 graduate of Brockport Central School. Always one who excelled in art and style, she continued her education in Rochester becoming a hair stylist and practicing in Rochester and New York City. Carol’s focus was her family and while she was proud to be a full-time homemaker, she was able to share her time and talents in the community. Her love of books was a perfect fit for her 5 years of work at the Portville Public Library before working with for the Mental Health Association for 10 years. Her shift into the medical field started at TransAm Ambulance as a driver for 5 years before ending her career at Dr. A Kothari’s office after 5 years there with her retirement in 2011. She set up their home in Cuba in 1956 and in the three years that followed, she and Doug fulfilled their dream of building a new family home from scratch in Franklinville in 1959. In 1970, after her husband’s promotion to lieutenant in the New York State Police, they moved their family and settled permanently in Portville. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran and devoted her time and energy to various committees there before transferring to Bethel Lutheran in Portville. Carol had a special talent for creating art of almost any kind. Her work with ceramics, drawing, calligraphy and knitting were well known and she was commissioned for various pieces. Her grandchildren were recipients of beautifully knitted pieces that are cherished heirlooms. Carol is survived by 4 children: Mark L. (Leanne) Parr of Tewksbury, MA, Eric D. (Cheryl Lippert) Parr of Olean, Daniel R. (Kerrie A.) Parr of Portville and Amy J. (Jeffrey) Skopak of Jacksonville, FL; 8 Grandchildren, Alexandra E. Parr, Victoria E. Parr, Zachary S. Parr, Grace E. Parr, Jacob D. Parr, Jarod W. Skopak and Madelyn S. Briggs; and a brother Garry J. (Jean) Leverenz of Webster, NY. Along with her parents, Carol was predeceased by her stepmother Mary R. Bauer and a granddaughter Janelle E. Parr. Funeral services were held in Olean at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St. on Thursday, February 3, 2022. A church funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran in Hamlin NY on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 2:30 pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portville Fire Department, PO Box 781, Portville, NY 14770, Weston Mills Fire Department PO Box 601, Weston Mills, NY 14788 or the Portville Free Library PO Box 768, Portville, NY 14770.
