Olean – William J. "Bill" Hughes "Loving Father & Grandfather" William J. "Bill" Hughes of 2721 McCann Hollow Rd., passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the Olean General Hospital following an illness. Bill was born on May 9, 1928 in Ainsworth, NE and was a son of John and Charlette Barrus Hughes. On June 25, 1960 in Islip, NY he married his loving wife of 32 years, Sigrid Schneidewind who predeceased him on March 14, 1992 Bill was a class of 1946 graduate of Islip High School. He excelled at being a photographer and was known for his wedding photography and had his own print shop in his home. Bill later became a printer and worked at Newsday Newspaper where he worked for 42 years, retiring in the early 1990's. He moved to Palmyra PA where he lived for 20 years before moving to Olean to live with his daughter and son in law. Bill was formerly a member of the Meridian Masonic Lodge. Bill was known as a perfectionist. He had a passion for flying and was working on getting his pilots license in Long Island. In his younger days he enjoyed boating and wood working. Bill is survived by; 2 children, Karen C. (Rick) Daniels and grandson Tyler Daniels of Olean and Richard J. (Teri) Hughes and step granddaughter Skylar- Rose of Florida. Along with his wife Sigrid, Bill was predeceased by his parents, and an infant son John Martin Hughes. Services will be held at a future date and time in Long Island. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Long Island. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean.
