Daniel E. Lerminiaux

October 2, 1942 — October 13, 2021

Olean – Daniel E. Lerminiaux "Loving Husband, Father & Teacher" Daniel E. Lerminiaux, of 628 Prospect Ave., passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at the Olean General Hospital, from a convergence of multiple medical issues. Born in Buffalo on Oct. 2, 1942, Dan grew up in Springville, the only son of Edward and Florence Tigler Lerminiaux. He attended SUC Geneseo where he met Donna M. Johnson, his lifetime partner. They were married on June 23, 1962 and moved to Olean in 1965 to take positions in the Olean City School District. Dan taught 8th Grade Science, first in the old Junior High, in split sessions at OHS, and in the original Middle School Building until his retirement in 1998. In his early years Dan was very active in the OTA and continued to be a strong teacher/student advocate. In more recent years he enjoyed running into former students who always recalled some "Mr. Lerminiaux" story or incident when, as one remarked, "He was tough, but he was fair". Dan was a loyal Yankee/Buffalo Bills fan. His interest in sports led him into a variety of coaching positions in the Olean School System, in both boys and girls sports, as well as basketball scorekeeper and Little League Umpire. He recently was thrilled and gratified to attend the 1981 NY State Football Championship team reunion to share memories from his time as assistant varsity coach. Dan was a talented carpenter/woodworker/handyman and could fix anything, including a complete house remodel, which he did multiple times, build furniture and create unique projects. Zack recalls the many times his Dad sat on the kitchen floor fine-tuning his wheelchair. Dan took great pride in his expansive lawn and enjoyed the effort it took and the compliments it brought. He enjoyed fishing and bowling in the teachers league, and in retirement found a new love for reading, playing competitive Bridge and art endeavors. He took very seriously his work as Election Poll Worker and enjoyed his time volunteering at the Olean Food Pantry. Dan was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was active in spearheading the building addition process and served as elder for many years. The center of Dan's life was his family and the joys of family life included 2-week cabin stays at Allegany State Park when the kids were young, followed by a new motor home adventures beginning with a 5-week trip to the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore. Disney World was a favorite destination, a tradition the Carrie's family has continued from her childhood memories. Dan is survived by those who loved and miss him: his wife Donna, his children Carrie (Brice) Nelson of Brighton MI and Zachary Lerminiaux of Allegany and his grandchildren Audrey and Gavin Nelson Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E.
