Ischua – Lawrence G. Selph "Loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather"
Lawrence G. Selph, of 1685 Yankee Hill Road, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Larry was born on September 19, 1948 in Detroit, MI and was a son of Herman and Catherine E. Tremper Selph. On May 15, 1970, in Detroit, MI, he married his wife of 50 years, Darlene J. Maki, who survives.
Larry served in the US Army from October 17, 1966 to May 21, 1969. He served in Vietnam for 2 years with the 299th Engineers Headquarters Company. Larry was a survivor of the Battle of Đăk Tô. He worked at the Olean American Tile Company Warehouse in Detroit, MI. Larry and his wife, Darlene, moved to Olean in 1977, where he started working with Ted Savey Fire Service in Portville for a period of time, as well as working for Hysol for about 8 years. He bought the Savey fire Service in 1986 and owned and operated Selph Fire Service until his retirement in 2015.
Larry was a member of the Brotherhood of Đăk Tô Defenders, a military reunion group that met once a year. He was formerly a very active volunteer firefighter for the Ischua Fire Department and was a certified EMT. Larry enjoyed playing cards and fishing, but he truly loved family get-togethers and gatherings.
Along with his loving wife, Larry is survived by; 3 children, Lawrence G. (Jill) Selph of Ischua, Timothy M. (Holly) Selph of Holland, and Lorana M. Selph of Gulfport, FL; several grandchildren, Lawrence III, Jessie, Christopher, Violet, Drake, Rowan, Genevieve, and Jack & Rayna Gordinier; and a brother, John (Beverly) Selph of Byron Center, MI.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean, on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at which time a Memorial Service will be held.
