Sr. Anna Theresa Sheridan

Born: Anna Theresa Sheridan on November 29, 1917 in Clinton, MA. Died: October 5, 2020 in the St. Clare Community of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY. Daughter of Edward and Mary Burke Sheridan of Clinton, MA. Sister Anna Theresa entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany on February 2, 1952, was received into the Congregation on August 15, 1952 and professed her final vows on August 16, 1959. For over 65 years, she dedicated her life to serving God through the ministry and Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. Sister attended grade school and high school in Clinton, MA, from 1923-35. In 1939, Sister attended Becker Business College, and in 1949, Forsyth Dental Clinic, both in Massachusetts. Upon answering the call and entering the Congregation, she attended St. Elizabeth Teacher College in Allegany, NY, (now part of St. Bonaventure University) where she earned a. B.S. in Education in 1966. She pursued graduate work earning her M.A. in Reading from Western Connecticut State College in Danbury, CT, in 1976 She began her educational career in Rochester, NY, and continued in the field of education in several congregational schools in Florida, North Carolina, Mississippi, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, and the Bronx, NY for almost 30 years. In 1981, Sister returned to Allegany where she ministered in the Treasury at the Motherhouse and in the libraries at St. John School and Archbishop Walsh High School, Olean, NY. Though Sr. Anna formally retired in 1999, she continued to be involved in many internal activities at the Motherhouse Sister Anna Theresa was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Edward, Austin and John, and sisters, Nora, Mary, Jeanette and Eleanor Murphy. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as several grand nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. All services will be private. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery, Lancaster, MA. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 East State Street, Olean, New York.
