Lawrence G. Shaffer

Lawrence G. "Gibbs" Shaffer of 23 Grove St., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Gibbs was born Nov. 24, 1929 in Caneada and was a son of Homer and Edith Horton Shaffer. On Aug. 22, 1953 in Cuba he married his wife of 51 years Elsie A. Owens, who predeceased him Dec. 12, 2004. Gibbs graduated from Cuba in 1948. He served in the US Army from Aug. 3, 1948 to Jan. 17, 1950. Gibbs worked at ACME as a shipping clerk for 40 years, retiring in about 1993. He enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he could. Gibbs is survived by three children, Lydia J. Shaffer of Rome, Thomas L. (Denise) Shaffer of Rochester, and Edythe M. (Robert) Marcello of Cuba; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Along with his loving wife, Gibbs was predeceased by 12 brothers & sisters including a sister Carmelita Butts on Jan. 1, 2013; and a close friend, Fran Marcell. Friends will be received Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba, where Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Dennis J. Mancuso, Pastor of Our Lady of the Angels Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Cuba Cemetery.
