Edward M. "Ed" Seth of 1429 South Ave. passed away on Monday, February 17, 2014 at home following a lengthy illness.
Ed was born May 17, 1948 in Olean and was a son of Paul and Jean Niles Seth. He was formerly married to Bonnie J. Walters and Linda Fries.
Ed served in the Marine Corps from March 16, 1966 to June 18, 1969. During his service in Vietnam, he was awarded with a Good Conduct Medal, 3 Purple Hearts, and the Presidential Unit Citation. After his service Ed was an Olean Police Officer for a short time and also worked at the Post Office in Olean for about 2 years. Ed worked for his family business "Seth's Tree Service" on and off for many years. He was a member of the Olean VFW, the Olean and Portville American Legions, and the Enchanted Mountain Lodge #252 F&AM. Ed enjoyed hunting, target shooting, collecting guns, and canoeing.
Ed is survived by one daughter, Jennifer A. Seth-Higley of Allegany; two grandchildren, PFC Coty M. Seth of Fort Drum, and Charissa P. Combs of Allegany; two sisters, Susan Topor of Belfast, and Paula Midge Messler of Shinglehouse, PA; and one brother, Paul John Seth of Bolivar.
Ed was predeceased by one sister, Sharon Depp on March 27, 2007; and one brother, Jeffrey Seth in 1974.
Friends will be received Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at which time a Service will be held. The Rev. David E. Tourville, Associate Pastor at St. Mary of the Angels Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Post Charles Harbel Post 892 Ritual team.
