Charles E. Hitchcock

Charles E. "Chuck" Hitchcock, Sr. of 243 Route 16 South, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at his home following a lengthy illness. Chuck was born April 15, 1933 in Kane, PA and was a son of Harvard C. and Doris Shaw Hitchcock. On Jan. 25, 1958 in Franklinville he married his wife of almost 53 years, Virginia A. Plummer, who predeceased him on Dec. 5, 2010. When Chuck was a teenager he was a pin setter at local bowing alleys and pumped gas at Cookies Gas Station in Knapp Creek. He served in the United States Army from April 16, 1953 to April 15, 1955. He worked at ACME in both Allegany and Cuba for 53 years retiring in 2004. Chuck was also a 53 year member of the Knapp Creek Fire Department and was formerly a member of the Knapp Creek United Methodist Church. Chuck enjoyed four wheeling, mowing his lawn, woodworking, camping & boating. Chuck is survived by two grandchildren, Ryan C. (Taylor Palmer) Hitchcock, and Erin R. Hitchcock both of Knapp Creek; one great-grandson, Dominik C. Hitchcock; one daughter-in-law, Vanessa R. Preston-Hitchcock of Knapp Creek; one brother, Harvard M. (Marilyn) Hitchcock of Knapp Creek; three sisters, Mavis M. (Herman) Foster of Bolivar, Darlene A. (Ed) Stover of Limestone, and Donna K. (Bill) Rice of Knapp Creek; and many nieces & nephews. Along with his wife, Chuck was predeceased by his son, Charles E. Hitchcock, Jr. on July 23, 2007; three sisters, Frances C. Bunk on April 9, 2012, Rosemary Cooley on March 5, 2010, and Shirley M. Peters on March 6, 2009. Friends will be received Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean, New York 14760 from 4 pm to 7 pm. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Bradley D. Chesebro, Pastor of the Knapp Creek United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Allegany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Knapp Creek United Methodist Church, #208 Route 16 South, Olean, New York 14760.
