Obituary of Robert A. Halwig



Olean - Robert Alan "Bob" Halwig "Local Taxi Cab Driver"


            Robert A. "Bobby" Halwig, 56, of 113 1/2 E. Henley Street, passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at his home following a  brief illness.


             Bob, or Bobby, as he was often called, was born November 11, 1961 in Olean and the only son of the late H. Greydon and Ingeburg M. Sielaff  Halwig. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Jim) Strouth (nee Halwig), of Maryland, his two nieces, Christina Lee (David) Rothwell (nee Wheeler) of California, and Jessica Lynn (Kyle) Purser (nee Wheeler), of Florida, as well as by several cousins.


            Bob lived his entire life in Olean and went to Ivers J. Norton Elementary, Olean Junior High and Olean High schools, where he graduated from in 1979. He never married nor had children, preferring to indulge his two favorite activities, driving cars and getting to know people. Bob was an driver for Alle-Catt Taxi in Olean in Olean and had been with the company practically from the day he graduated high school. He was known as the driver for car #6.  He always worked hard to make sure his customers were entertained as well as safely transported to their destination.  The areas around Olean and Allegany were well known to him as his "stomping grounds" all his life. Bob enjoyed many holiday times and especially enjoyed making every Veteran's Day an extra special day to remember. 


            Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean on Thursday July 5, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00 pm at which time a Memorial Service will be held.  During this service friends of Bobby will be invited to share memories of him. Bobby was cremated and his sister Mary Ann will be custodian of his ashes.
