Portville – Edward Michael "Mike" Kwiatkowski, Jr. "Loving Brother & Uncle"
Mike Kwiatkowski died on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018 at the Olean General Hospital, after a relentless fight with cancers that did not respond to treatment.
Mike was born on April 19, 1947 in Olean and was a son of Edward Michael and Dorothy Marie Fothergill) Kwiatkowski, Sr. He was a life-long resident of Portville. Michael was a 1965 graduate of Portville Central School.
Mike served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as Military Police. He worked at Dresser Rand in Olean for 46 years, retiring at age 62.
Mike is an active member of the Portville American Legion Post and Portville Memorial American Legion Riders Post #814 and he is also a member of the St. Stephens Club in Olean and the local Portville Card Club. He was a former member of the Portville Volunteer Fire Company.
For many years, Mike played darts, horseshoes and shot on pool teams. He enjoyed a good golf game with his many friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and bike riding with his friends. Mike loved working on cars especially his Corvette and motorcycles. His other hobbies included wood crafts, especially clocks he made from logs he harvested from his own land. Mike gave each family members a clock and donated many of the clocks to area Cancer funds and other fundraisers.
Mike was a handy man that was willing to help anyone at anytime. He especially helped his family how ever he could. Mike could fix anything and was often called upon to do so by family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him and especially his cat "Lady Bug."
Mike is survived by; his sister, Helen Kwiatkowski Watson of Portville; his niece, Laurie (Jim Bennett) Watson of Olean; his niece and god daughter, Wendy (John) Watson Rajeh of Massapequa; a nephew, James A. (Tammy) Watson, Jr. of Shinglehouse, PA; great nieces and nephew, Abriana (Nik Cowles) McCready, Samantha Rajeh, and Caleb Watson; a great great niece and nephew, Sophia and Michael Cowles; and several cousins.
Mike was predeceased by his parents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 Ritual Team. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, 202 South Union St, Olean on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 at 10:00 am. The Rev. David E. Tourville, Associate Pastor of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, will celebrate. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania 16505.
The family would like to thank his close friends; Tom and Debbie Adams, and Ray and Gail Fuencher of Portville for their help to Mike and his family during the past two weeks of illness. A special thanks to Dr. Shafi Raza and Lori Banse-Fay NP and nursing staff at the Olean General Hospital for Mike's exceptional care and the doctors their understanding and kindness showed to Mike's family during this time.
