William "Bill" Zuckerman, of 528 York Street, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Olean General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Bill was born May 2, 1922 in Akron, OH and was a son of Gary A. And Dora Beyer Zuckerman. On August 11, 1946 in Buffalo he married his wife of almost 69 years, Lynn R. Williams, who survives.
Bill was a 1940 graduate of Olean High School. He served in the US Army from Oct. 13, 1942 to Dec. 27, 1945. He received the appointment as Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, awarded by France in June of 2014. Bill and his brother, Oscar and owned & operated Zuckerman Brother Salvage/Scrap Metal they also started Eastern Supplies in East Olean. He also was a partner in a jewelry store in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a number of years while he and his wife Lynn wintered there. Bill then started Southeastern Transmission. He was involved in many entrepreneurial businesses including metal stamp and plating through out his career.
Bill was a member of the B'Nai Israel Synagogue and the Portville Masonic Lodge #579 F&AM. He was also a member of the Bartlett Country club, where he enjoyed golfing. Bill enjoyed staying busy, dabbling in the stock market and traveling.
Along with his loving wife, Bill is survived by three children, James A. (Judy) Zuckerman of Coral Spring, FL, Craig H. (Kristine Kivari) Zuckerman of Olean, and M. Michael (Jan Levine) Zuckerman of Narberth, PA; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Scott, Bree, Ian, Rachel, Joshua, and Sydney Belle; three great grandchildren, Rebekah, Benjamin, and Bebo; and one sister, Evelyn Wachtel of Boca Raton, FL.
Bill was predeceased by one brother, Oscar Zuckerman in 1988.
Private services were held yesterday, July 1, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the B'Nai Israel Cemetery. Dr. David Shulman officiated. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to B'Nai Israel Temple, 127 South Barry Street, Olean, New York 14760 or to the Robert H. Jackson Center, 305 East 4th Street, Jamestown, New York 14701.
