Brett M. Spehar

Brett M. Spehar of 4222 Route 488, formerly of Portville, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Brett was born on Feb. 22, 1975 in Olean and was a son of Gregory A. and Linda K. Long Spehar. On March 25, 2007 he married April L. Barnhart, who survives. Brett was a 1995 Graduate of Portville High School. He served in the US Air Force from Feb. 7, 1996 to March 30, 1999. While in the Air Force Brett worked as a diesel mechanic. After the Air Force he worked in the Bradford Oil Fields for East Resources for several years. Brett enjoyed hunting & fishing and outdoor sports. He truly loved his family and especially his nephews as he loved loving hunting & fishing and being with them. Brett also volunteered at the Canandaigua Veterans Hospital for other veteran. He will be remembered as a very loving and caring family man. In addition to his wife, Brett is survived by two grandmothers, Harriet Long of Portville, and Thelma Spehar of Eldred; his father and step mother, Gregory A. Spehar of Portville; two daughters, Rylin Briggs and Leanna L. Barnhart; a brother, Troy A. (Amy) Spehar of Duke Center, Pa.; a sister, Amy J. (Aaron) Brogan of Mumford, NY; six nephews & nieces, Jessie, Jeremy & Jordan and Alec, Madelyn & Emma; a uncle & aunt, Robert H. "Bob" (Patty) Long of Mars, Pa.; and several special cousins. Brett was pre-deceased by his mother, Linda K. Spehar; and two grandfathers, Robert H. Long and Anthony "Tony" Spehar. Funeral Services will be private. The Rev. Marilyn K. Hale, Pastor of the Portville First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville. Military honors will be accorded be the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 ritual team. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, Florida 32256.
