Shirley A. Hammond

Shirley A. Hammond of 2437 Route 305, passed away Monday February 23, 2015, at Olean General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born Sep. 13, 1940 in Troupsburg, PA and was a daughter of Howard Payne and Freida Wakely. On June 8, 1957, in Olean she married her husband of 52 years, Willard J. Hammond, who predeceased her on Aug. 16, 2009. Shirley worked at the Olean Tile Plant. She then went to St. Francis School of Nursing and graduated an LPN. Shirley worked at St. Francis Hospital starting in 1980 until 1991. Shirley and her husband owned Hammond Furniture for many years until their retirement in 2006. She attended the West Clarksville Baptist Church and was a member of the Clarksville Town Board. Shirley loved her flower beds, especially her rose gardens. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, crossword puzzles, picture puzzles, and reading, but her true joy came from spending time with her family. Shirley is survived by five children, David L. (Vanessa) Hammond of Portville, James J. (Cynthia) Hammond of Clarksville, Michelle A. (Stephen Martin) VanSickle of Clarksville, Dawn M. (Thom) Mix of Shinglehouse, PA, and Debra L. (Roger) Sisson of Bolivar; several grandchildren & great grandchildren; one brother, John & Sue Payne of Arcade; several nieces & nephews; and her stepfather, Carl Williams of Rochester. Along with her loving husband, Shirley was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Payne; and two sisters, Jackie Holland & Pat Schickler. Friends will be received on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, where funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, Feb 26, 2015 at 11:00 am. The Rev. John A. Lounsbury, Pastor of the Corner Stone Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
