Donald C. Cooney of 4115 S. Nine Mile Road, Valley View Estates Lot 118, formerly of Bradley Ave. Olean, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 in the Olean Pines Health and Rehab. Center in Olean following an illness. Don was born on May 6, 1941 in Ellicottville and was a son of Donald C. and Betty Straubing Cooney, Sr. He married his loving wife of 35 years Kay P. Macklin who survives. Don was a 1959 graduate of Salamanca High School. He served in the US Army from Oct. 24, 1960 to Oct. 23, 1963. He continued his education, received a degree in Teaching from Buffalo State in the late 1970's. Don took over his fathers Contracting Business in 1960 and was owner and operator of Cooney & Sons Contracting for the next 52 years. They where know for there dedication to quality workmanship. Don also taught Building Construction and the Trades at BOCES for a number of years. Don attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and was a member of the Olean American Legion and was a life member of the Olean VFW. He was an Avid Golfer and enjoyed Hunting and Fishing and being outdoors. Besides his loving wife, Don is survived by six children, Karen Ann (Steve) Bollard of New Jersey, Shaun P. (Angelina) Cooney of Melbourne, Fl., Todd W. (Josephine) Cooney of Amherst, Kyle M. Cooney of Olean, Dustin C. Cooney of Olean, and Chad D. Cooney of Orlando, Fl.; nine grandchildren, Ian, Andrew, Evan, Bridgette, Kaitlyn, Shay, Shayna, Owen and Naudia; and several nieces & nephews. Don was pre-deceased by a son, Donald C. Cooney, III; two brothers, Richard and Jack Cooney; and an infant sister, Karen Ann Cooney. Friends will be received on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean, Where funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at 10:00 am. Elder Zane Kinston, will officiate. Burial will be in the Green Cemetery, Great Valley. Members of the Allegany American Legion Charles Herbal Post 892 Ritual Team will accord full military honors. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4258 Route 16, Hinsdale, NY 14743. Online condolences may be made by clicking on the button above.
