Donald Peter Schaefer, of 9320 North Shore Road, formerly of Buffalo, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 at the Olean General Hospital.
Peter was born on July 16, 1950 in Buffalo and was a son of Donald John and Margaret Josefiak Schaefer. On July 22, 1972, at the Transfiguration Church in Buffalo, he married his wife of 44 years, Donna Marie Faltyn, who survives.
Peter graduated from Maryvale High School in 1968. He went on to college at Erie Community College and graduated in 1971. Peter worked as a Prototype Machinist at Trico Products for 27 years, from 1970 to 1997. He then completed his Bachelor Degree in Vocational Technology and began teaching Machining at BOCES in Belmont, where he retired. Peter and his wife, Donna Marie, moved to Cuba in 1999.
Peter was a Life Member of the Scranton Volunteer Fire Department, where he held several offices. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Angels Church, where he taught religious education. Peter enjoyed playing guitar, banjo, and ukulele. He also enjoyed motorcycling.
Along with his loving wife, Peter is survived by his father, Donald John Schaefer of Tarpon Springs, FL; and one son, Christopher P. (Shannon Bohne) Schaefer of Buffalo.
Peter was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Schaefer.
Friends will be received at Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba today, Dec. 2, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady of the Angels Church. The Rev. Dennis J.J. Mancuso, pastor, will celebrate. Ennichement will be in the St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Lancaster, NY on Monday Dec. 5, 2016 at 2:00 pm.
