Elizabeth J. O�Leary

Born: Mary Anne O�Leary on February 21, 1933 in Camden, NJ. Died: December 9, 2016 at the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, in Allegany, NY. Daughter of John and Elizabeth Cusick O�Leary of Westmont, NJ. Sister Elizabeth was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on July 2, 1961 and professed her final religious vows on July 2, 1968. For more than 55 years, she was devoted to the life and ministry of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. Sister attended grade school in Westmont at Holy Savior from 1939-47, going on to graduate from Camden Catholic High School in Camden, NJ in 1951. For several years, she had been discerning a call to religious life and in 1960, applied and was accepted by the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. Upon entering, Sister Elizabeth completed college courses at St. Elizabeth Teachers College (now known as St. Bonaventure University) in Allegany, NY and Mt. Mercy College in Pittsburgh, PA where she received her B.A. in Sociology and Medical Records in 1965. Sister ministered primarily in the field of healthcare medical records in congregational hospitals in New York and New Jersey. In 1965 she was assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ as Director of Medical Records, a position she held until 1973. She went on to serve at St. Clare�s Hospital in New York City as Medical Records Administrator until 1989. In 1990 she accepted a position in Medical Records at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation in Lawrenceville, NJ and served in this facility for the next 10 years. In 2000, she accepted the position as Regional Secretary for the congregation in the Northeast. When Sister became semi-retired in 2004, she returned to Our Lady of Lourdes where she was honored to serve in Patient Relations and as Spiritual Care Advisor. Those years of personal contact with people in need were some of her best. In 2010, she was warmly welcomed home by her Sisters at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, NY. Sister still had a strong commitment of service to others and was robust in personal energy. She welcomed the opportunity to volunteer and, for several years, was a dear and familiar face with a cheerful voice at the Motherhouse switchboard. To those either at the window or on the phone line, her commitment to provide pleasant, professional service was always apparent! Sister Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents and brothers, John Francis O�Leary Jr. and James Joseph O�Leary. She is survived by her brother, Joseph G. O�Leary and sisters, Elizabeth M. Carroll and Ellen L. Nuckowski, as well as several nieces, nephews, and their families. A Wake Service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 in the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, New York. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, New York. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 East State Street, Olean, New York.
