John E. Milks, formerly of 3606 Fay Hollow Rd., passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at the Pines Health & Rehab, following a lengthy illness.
John was born Oct. 16, 1931 in Jamestown and was a son of John H. and Ethel Francis Milks. On July 24, 1954 in Little Valley he married his wife of 59 years, Norma J. Post, who predeceased him on Aug. 30, 2013.
John graduated from Little Valley High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army from Dec. 7, 1955 to Dec. 6, 1957, where he served as an aircraft mechanic. After his service, John was a school bus driver for the Hinsdale Central School for over 20 years. He also drove for many of the extra curricular activities, and was known as the Legendary driver for the Hinsdale Color Guard, driving the bus for their out of state competitions. John was a former president, vice president, and treasurer for the New York State Trappers Association, which he was involved with for 15 years. He oversaw the sportsman conventions. John also did nuisance animal trapping in western New York for 10 years. He was an avid St. Bonaventure fan and High School Sports fan. John loved the outdoors and produced maple syrup. He was a powerful man known for his strength.
John is survived by three sons, John C. (Cookie Moews) Milks of Rhinelander, WS, Clarke L. Milks of Hinsdale, and Terri C. (Laura) Milks of Hinsdale; one daughter, Brenda Kay Milks of Bristow, OK; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; five siblings, Eugene Milks of Napoli, Charles (Percy) Milks of Napoli, Raymond (Sandy) Milks of Arcade, Sherwood Milks of Little Valley, and Marlene Webster of Dunkirk; and several nieces & nephews.
Along with his loving wife and his parents, John was predeceased by a daughter, Sherri M. Milks; a sister, Martha Slater; and two brothers-in-law, James Webster & John Slater.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State St., Olean on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Terry L. Jenks, Pastor of the Maplehurst Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. Online condolences may be made by clicking the button above.
