William Malone of 725 Barnum Road passed away Friday Nov. 8, 2013 in the Olean General Hospital following an illness. Born on June 12, 1934 in Olean he was the son of William John & Pauline M. Moore Malone. On April 26, 1965 in Olean he married the former Jacklyn D. Bump who predeceased him on April 22, 1998.
Bill was a 1952 graduate of Allegany Central School. After graduation Bill joined the US Army, serving from 1957-59. While serving he worked in a burn hospital in Texas. Bill was also proud of having worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for a period of time. Bill and his wife Jackie also owned and operated the Half - Way Inn on the Barnum Road in Olean for more than thirty years. A member of the Olean VFW, Eagles and the Allegany American Legion. He was also a charter member of the Enchanted Mountain Snowmobile Club. His hobbies were snowmobiling and riding motorcycles, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family and his grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Surviving Mr. Malone are three sons William J. (Roberta) Hirliman of Horseheads, NY, Joseph R. (Linda) Hirliman of Jamestown, NY, and Thomas J. (Teresa) Hirliman of Olean, NY; two brothers, John (Marilyn) Malone of Farmersville, NY, and L. Thomas (Rebekah) Malone of Olean, NY; four sisters, Catherine Anders of Shinglehouse, PA, Jane Nunamaker of Richmond, KY, Teresa Malone of Avon, NY, and Margaret Malone of Olean, NY; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Bill was predeceased by four brothers, Michael Malone, Richard (Red) Malone, Joseph R. Malone and Roy D. Malone.
Friends will be received on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 from 4PM to 7PM at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean, New York 14760. A graveside memorial Service will be held at St. Bonaventure Cemetery on Nov. 12, 2013 at 10 AM.. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson Pastor of St Mary's of the Angels will officiate. Burial will be in the St Bonaventure Cemetery, with full military honors accorded by the Ritual Team of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892.
