Bill Hammond on 2437 Rt. 305, Cuba passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Mr. Hammond was born on July 6, 1934 in Olean and was a son of McKinley and Nina Woodruff Hammond. On June 8, 1957 in Olean he married his wife Shirley A. Payne who survives.
Mr. Hammond served in the US Air Force from July 8, 1952 to July 11, 1956. He worked at Wayland Hole Sale for about 25 years and at AMCE in Cuba for about 2 years. Mr. Hammond then worked as salesman at the Family furniture store "Hammond Furniture".
Mr. Hammond enjoyed hunting & fishing & gardening and going to OTB. Most of all he loved his family and enjoyed spending time (picking) on them.
Surviving Mr. Hammond besides his wife of 52 years are two sons, David L. (Vanessa) Hammond of Portville, and James J. (Cynthia) Hammond of Clarksville; three daughters, Michelle A. (Stephen Martin) VanSickle of Clarksville, Dawn M. (Thom) Mix of Shinglehouse, Pa., and Debra L. (Roger) Sisson of Bolivar; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hammond was pre-deceased by two brothers, Edwin and McKinley Hammond; and two sisters, Janice Hollamby and Corrine Wank.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 2-4 &7-9 P.M. in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Leslie Chambers Pastor of the West Clarksville Baptist Church will officiate. Burial, with full military honor's accorded by the Allegany American Legion, will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean, NY
