Hinsdale – Wanda J. (Hatcher) Beattie “Loving Mother, Grandmother, & Great Grandmother”
Wanda J. (Hatcher) Beattie, 90, of 1018 Bushey Road, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Friday December 10th, 2021, at Olean General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Wanda was born on October 25th, 1931, in Roxton, Texas to Floyd L. Hatcher and Beckie Love-Hatcher. Wanda married Jay W. Beattie on October 14, 1954, in Hollis, Oklahoma. Wanda graduated from Cunningham High School near Childress, Texas in 1947. She was employed as a Nurse’s Aide in Childress, Texas and a Mental Health Aide in Amarillo, Texas. She also did Private Duty Nursing for various families in Amarillo.
Wanda was the Ladies Auxiliary President of the United Pentecostal Church in Amarillo where she helped organize dinners and made peanut brittle for church fundraisers. Wanda enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends.
She is survived by her brother Charles Hatcher of Tulia, Texas; children: Pastor Steven W. (Virginia) Beattie of Olean, NY, and Debra (Randall) Zabel of Hinsdale, NY; grandchildren: Jaye W. Beattie of Olean, NY and Jene G. (Craig) Gardner of Allegany, NY; four great-grandchildren: Abigail, Madelyn, Caleb, and Hailey Gardner, who lovingly called her “Gi-Gi”; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Wanda resided with her loving daughter, Debra (Randall) Zabel, who provided nursing care throughout her illness.
Wanda is pre-deceased by her husband Jay W. Beattie, March 1st, 1988, brothers; J.L Hatcher of Plainview, Texas, Floyd “Jabo” Hatcher of Childress, Texas, and one sister, Rebecca Ann Hatcher of Hinsdale, NY.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 13, 2021, at the Pentecostals of Olean located at 1100 Homer Street in Olean, NY 14760 from 5:00pm-6:30pm. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 6:30pm. An additional service will be conducted on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Jubilee Apostolic Church in Amarillo, Texas at a time to be announced. Wanda will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens in Amarillo beside her loving husband, Jay W. Beattie.
