Vincent J. Pantano of 4241 Rt. 16 passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at home following an illness. Mr. Pantano was born on June 9, 1922 and was the son of Filippo and Antonina Zabardo Pantano. On June 21, 1952 married his wife of 45 years Helen A. Bender, who pre-deceased him on Oct. 30, 1997. Mr. Palanto served in the US Air Force during WW II from Feb. 1, 1943 to Nov. 1, 1945 as a Tech Sergeant with the 31st Bomb Squadron. Upon return from the service, he became a Union Carpenter. Mr. Pantano worked on a number of buildings including at some at St. Bonaventure University, the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse and St. Francis Hospital, locally, and he also worked on in other communities including Pioneer and Silver Creek Schools. Mr. Pantano retired in 1996 after 51 years. Mr. Pantano was a life member of the Hinsdale Fire Department, Hinsdale American Legion, as well as a member of the Cuba VFW Post 2721 and American Vets Post 0001. He was a former member of the Carpenters Union #66 of Olean and the Local Carpenters Union #1379 of Buffalo. Mr. Pantano enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on projects for others. Surviving Mr. Pantano are three sons, Flip A. (Barbara) Pantano of Olean, Paul R. (Mary) Pantano of Hinsdale, and Peter (Becky) Pantano of Olean; three daughters, Patricia C. Schoonover of Portville, Pamela R. Fitzgerald of Manchester, CT, and Perian (Dave) Dorson of Olean; three sisters, Sally Young of Alden, Rose Militello of Amherst, NY, and Dorothy Murray of Buffalo; twelve grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Mr. Pantano is predeceased by a brother, Joseph Pantano. Friends will be received on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 Pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Father Barry Allaire will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Hinsdale Fire Department, Hinsdale, NY.
