Vergil J. Sutter of 414 North 8th Street, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013 shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital following an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Sutter was born March 28, 1947 in Olean and was a son of Vergil L. and Mary M. Giermek Sutter. He is a graduate of Olean High School. He continued his education at SUNY College at Alfred Technology and then St. Bonaventure University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Vergil worked for Acme Electric for several years. He then went to work at AVX as an Electrical Engineer and later as a consultant. Vergil retired from AVX in 2012. He was a life long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Maronite Rite Church. He remained very active member in the church including serving as an usher for many years. Vergil was also a life member of the Pulaski Club. He loved gardening, canning & cooking, golfing at St. Bonaventure Golf Course, reading, and he was well known for his walks around town. Vergil was a life long St. Bonaventure "Bonnies Fan".
Vergil is survived by two brothers, David P. Sutter, and Charles T. (Diane) Walters both of Olean; two sisters, Margaret Z. (Arthur) Shaner of Portville, and Nancy C. (James) Rouleau of Allegany; and several nieces & nephews.
Friends will be received today, Dec. 5, 2013 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday Dec. 6, 2013 at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Anthony J. Salim, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church will celebrate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. A service of incense will be held this evening at 7:15 pm in the funeral home.
