Olean – Sylvia Anne Scheminger
Sylvia Anne Scheminger of 2907 McCann Hollow Rd., Olean, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Sun Coast Hospice in Pinellas Park, FL, after a long illness.
Sylvia was born on January 16, 1939 in Olean and was the daughter of Clifford and Mary Catherine Simmons Fisher. On August 5, 1961, at St. Mary of the Angels Parish, she married her husband of 56 years, William “Bill” Scheminger, who survives.
Sylvia attended Olean High School, graduating in 1956. In 1958 she graduated from Morrisville Technical Institute with a degree in Food Service Management. Sylvia was the School Lunch Manager in the Allegany Central School District for several years. In 1975 she accepted a position with the Olean School District, retiring in 2000 as Food Service Director. Sylvia also served as a Master Instructor in the State Education Department Training Program for school food service workers. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren, traveling, and cooking.
Along with her loving husband, Sylvia is survived by; her five children, Edward Scheminger of Olean, Jeffrey (Anna) Scheminger, of Watertown MA, Lisa (Keir) Dirlam, of Almond, Holly Daigle of Pelham NH, and Philip Scheminger of Olean. She is also survived by nine grandchildren Lucas (Josie) Scheminger, Gretchen (Chris) Arndt, Ryan (Hannah) Scheminger, Maria, Nathan, Simon and Jessica Daigle, Dylan and Samantha Dirlam, and her brother, Clifford “Kip” (Karen) Fisher, of Walworth NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was predeceased by her two sisters, Janet (Ron) Aaron and Mary Ellen (Dan) Barrett.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 beginning in the funeral home with a prayer service at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. The Rev. David E. Tourville, Associate Pastor, will celebrate and the mass will be concelebrate by Rev. Bernard Survil, Sylvia's cousin. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
