Susan J. Vahl of 3082 Haskell Road passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at home following a long illness.
Born Oct. 18, 1947 in Fredonia she was a daughter of Jerald A. and Ruth Normand Hackman.
Mrs. Vahl was a graduate of Fredonia State Collage with a degree in Liberal Arts.
Mrs. Vahl was the Director of the Cattaraugus County Arts Counsel for many years retiring in Jan 2006. She was an avid outdoors person and an animal rites advocate. Mrs. Vahl helped organize the first Olean Area Fundraising for local Arts and for the Aids Quilt committee which brought the Aids Quilt to St. Bonaventure University. She was also instrumental in raise money and volunteering for the SPCA & Animal Rites Groups.
Surviving Mrs. Vahl are her mother, Ruth N. Hackman of Fredonia; a long time companion, Buz Bordonaro of Cuba; a son, Scott (Michelle) Sahle of Wesley Chapel, Fl.; a granddaughter, Alexandra Sahle of Wesley Chapel, Fl.; a brother, William G. (Marge) Hackman of Warsaw, VA; two nephews; and a a niece.
Mrs. Vahl was pre-deceased by her father Jerald A. Hackman and a brother James A. Hackman in 1995.
At her request there will be no public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Susan J. Vahl Spay-Neuter Fund in care of the Joyful Rescues 1319 Turock Drive, Cuba, NY 14727.
