Hinsdale – Steven R. Stimson "Loving Father, Grandfather, & Loyal Friend"
Steven R. Stimson passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at his home, from an unexpected natural cause.
Steven was born on September 22, 1949 in Olean and was a son of Charles R. and Christine L. Scheade Stimson. He was formerly married to Veronica S. Stevens.
Steven was a 1967 graduate of Hinsdale Central School. He served in the US Air Force from May 21, 1968 to February 28, 1990. After his service, Steven worked as a plumber in Florida before moving back to the Olean Area. He was a substitute teacher in Hinsdale for a number of years and then he worked for the Seneca Allegany Casino for a short time, as well as, being a real estate agent for Century 21. Steven then went to work for the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections for over 10 years, retiring in 2018.
Steven was very active in the Hinsdale American Legion, where he served as a Past Commander, where he was given the Commanders Award of Excellence for his service as Commander of his Post, as well as, his service with the Joint Veteran's Van Service in 2014. He was also a Judge Advocate for the State Legion for many years. Steven was a life-time member of the VFW and the Disabled Vets. He was a member of the Paralyzed Veterans Association. Steven was president of the Hinsdale Alumni Association for many years. He was an active fund raiser for the Cattaraugus County Veteran's Van Service for many years. Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being outdoors.
Steven is survived by; 2 daughters, Amy M. (Travis Capehart) Dendy of Lexington, SC and Sarah A. (Shane) Kirschner of Bethel, OH; 5 granddaughters, Claire, Alexis, McKayla, Mallory, and Marilyn; 2 sisters, Evelyn M. (Donald) Johnson of LeRoy and Diana L. (Timothy) Scull of Olean; a brother, Rick D. Stimson of California; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Mary Ann Sawaya of Olean.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11:00am at the Mt. View Cemetery Veteran's Field of Honor in Olean. Mr. Monroe B. Bishop will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 Ritual Team.
