Stanley A. Norek, our beloved father, grandfather, and friend took his Lord's hand and passed peacefully from this life on his 80th birthday, June 13, 2012. He was a resident of Cole Manor in Coudersport, PA, and a former resident of Youngsville, NC and Shrewsbury, PA. Stan was the youngest of 9 children both to Casmir & Eva Mativiecz Norek. On May 26, 1962 at St. Augustine Church in Austin, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Lou Williams Norek, who predeceased him on August 9, 2007. Stan and Marilyn are the parents of two children, Amy Norek Jones of Raleigh, NC, and Gary A. W. Norek of Alexandria, VA.
Stanley graduated from Austin High School and Williamsport Area Community College, where he received his Associates degree in Electronics. He had a long career as a field service engineer for Westinghouse and Datagraphix Corporation. When he retired, Marilyn and Stan moved to North Carolina. They attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Wake Forest, where Stan enjoyed volunteering for the preschool. They also enjoyed attending musical and school events of their grandchildren, Philip, Emily, and Patrick Jones.
Besides his children and grandchildren, Stan is survived by a brother, John (Phyllis) Norek of Coudersport, and two sisters, Agnes (Norman) Martin of Austin, and Jean Streich of Emporium, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Mr. Norek was predeceased by 5 siblings: Helen Hardes, Mary Ours, Michael Norek, Betty Ludwig, and Frances Dujenski.
Stan returned to live in Potter County in 2009. Stan was an active member of St. Eulalia Roman Catholic Church in Coudersport. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. James Campbell at St. Eulalia Monday June 18 at 11:00 am. A reception is planned following the service. Burial will be in the private family cemetery in Wharton Township after the reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cole Manor Residents' Activity Fund.
