Sr. Ann entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany on September 4, 1949, was received into the Congregation on August 15, 1950, and professed her final vows on August 16, 1957. As an Allegany Franciscan Sister for 72 years, she joyfully lived her call to reflect God’s love and mercy to all with whom she came in contact.
Ann attended St. Peter Grammar School, Dorchester, MA, and graduated from St. Patrick High School, Roxbury, MA, in 1945. She attended Burdett College of Business in Boston, MA, and St. Elizabeth Teachers College, Allegany, NY, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education from St. Bonaventure University. Sr. Ann earned her Master of Library Science Degree from Marywood College, Scranton, PA.
Sr. Ann’s life reflected her dedication to education. She taught in Congregational Schools in New York and New Jersey for 33 years including St. John, Olean, NY, and St. Bonaventure Parish School, Allegany, NY. Sr. Ann served as Principal of St. Aloysius School, Oaklyn, NJ. She also served as Librarian at Melbourne Central Catholic High School, Melbourne, FL, and at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, Waterbury, CT. Following her many years in education, Sr. Ann was called to administrative work as Secretary for Region III of the Congregation and in Pastoral Care at St. Joseph Hospital, Tampa, FL. During this time she also served as Sacristan.
In 1988 Ann was warmly welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse as Assistant to the Congregational Archivist and later as the Archivist, a role she served until her retirement in 2001. Sr. Ann happily volunteered wherever she was needed, including the reception area and switchboard of the Motherhouse. Her kindness, warmth and beautiful smile welcomed all visitors and callers to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse.
Sr. Ann is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Welby Kelly, and her sister, Mary (Daniel) Driscoll. She is survived by three nephews Daniel (Sheila) Driscoll, Paul (Karen) Driscoll, Philip (Shari) Driscoll, one niece Elaine (Joseph) Kaddish and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY at a private service.
