Sister Patricia Redmond

Born: Patricia Ann Redmond on July 30, 1936 in Buffalo, NY. Died: April 9, 2014 in the Healthcare Center of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY. Daughter of Daniel and Catherine Lee Redmond of Buffalo, NY. She was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1952 and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1959. Sister Patricia attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help grade school in Buffalo, NY from 1942-50, followed by high school at Nardin Academy of Buffalo, NY and St. Elizabeth Academy in Allegany, NY, graduating in 1955. After joining the Congregation, she began college courses at St. Elizabeth Teacher's College (now known as St. Bonaventure University) in Allegany, NY, continuing on at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY earning her B.S. in Education in 1967. Sr. Patricia pursued graduate studies at Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY and Barry University in Miami, FL, completing her M.A. degree in Religious Education in 1972. Sr. Patricia taught religious education in the lower grades in Congregational schools located in New York and Florida. After a brief teaching assignment in Ft. Myers, FL, she became Director of a pastoral outreach program at St. Francis Xavier parish for several years. Following her ministry in Ft. Myers, she served more than a decade in pastoral care at St. Maximilian Kolbe parish in Venice, FL. Sr. Patricia retired from active service in 2012, and was welcomed home to the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, in Allegany, NY in 2014. Sister Patricia is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by a brother, James, sisters Joan Colern and Kathleen Pierce, as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews. A Wake Service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014 in the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, New York. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 East State Street, Olean, New York.
