Sister M. Michael Joseph Fayden, OSF died Friday, January 09, 2009 at Millard Fillmore Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
Born Mary Florence Fayden on May 16, 1924 in Washington Heights, New York, NY she was a daughter of Michael Fayden and Florence Buckman Fayden, formerly of Cambria Heights, NY.
She was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, New York, at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1947; and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1954.
Sister Michael Joseph faithfully lived the Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany for over sixty years. Sister began her Franciscan life as an elementary and catechetical teacher from 1948 -1955 in Pleasantville, NJ, Pittsburgh, PA, Port Jervis, NY, and Jamestown, NY. In 1956, Sister Michael Joseph moved to Rhode Island where she faithfully served her sisters in various internal ministries in the cities of Providence and Woonsocket. She continued her ministry of service to the sisters in Alden and Allegany, NY until she retired in Tampa, FL in 1981. Sister returned to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY in 1985 where she shared her gift of service with the sisters on a part time basis. Sister Michael Joseph also participated in the activities of the Linwood Adult Day Care Center, where her presence was a joy to all.
Sister was predeceased by her parents and brothers Michael Joseph, John Morgan, and Joseph John Fayden. In addition to her Franciscan sisters, Sister Michael Joseph is survived by her nieces Florence and Frances Fayden; and cousins.
A Wake Service is scheduled on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at 6:30 P.M. at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse at 10:30 A.M., on Wednesday, January 14, 2009. Interment will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, New York.
