Born: Elizabeth Mulcahy on March 2, 1917 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
Died: January 13, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, New York.
Daughter of John and Elizabeth Blunt Mulcahy.
She was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, New York at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1939, and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1946.
Sister Mary Infantina faithfully lived the Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany for over 70 years. She attended grade school at St. Charles and high school at St. Clare's in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. She studied at Rhode Island College and later at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York. Over the years, her ministry was teaching, in a range of grades from K to 8. She served in schools of the Congregation located in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida. Her last 21 years of teaching were in New Jersey. Sister Infantina enjoyed playing the organ for church services, as well as giving music lessons to children. During her semi-retirement, Sister also enjoyed her favorite pastime of gardening and took great pleasure in meal preparation and serving her own fresh vegetables to the Sisters. Sister retired to St. Paul's in Highland Park in 1991 and joined the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse community in Allegany, New York in 1996.
Sister Mary Infantina is predeceased by her parents, brothers Joseph and John, as well as sisters, Sarah, Catherine and Ethel. She is survived by two brothers, Charles and Francis, two sisters, Mary and Olive, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Wake Service is scheduled for Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 18, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, New York.
